I’ve met multiple serial killers, hitmen, Dr. Jack Kevorkian (reviled in here for being a prison-snitch and an all-around jerk), the “Jenny Jones Show Killer” (a well-spoken guy who could play a bit of guitar), and one of the men that “Home Improvement” actor Tim Allen testified against to avoid spending life in prison back in the 1970s (the guy hates Tim Allen, then known as Timothy Dick, with a passion to this day, but is also a complete no-good scumbag).
But while these people seem like good stories on the surface, they’re far from having the most interesting stories backstories of people I’ve met in prison over the past seventeen years. These are the people I grew up around…
A friend of mine, a teenager who robbed a McDonalds… while wearing a hospital gown and driving an ambulance he stole from the hospital he had been taken to.
The little-person, under four foot tall, who was in here for armed carjacking. He had to be given a stool to stand on while taking a mandatory vocational class.
The escapee who got out of prison using stolen bolt-cutters during the Superbowl. The fence motion sensors went off, but the staff in charge of watching them were watching the big game instead. [For two years afterwards, prisoners across Michigan were locked down during the Superbowl]
An overweight teenage pimp named “Snax”, in prison for sex-trafficking, who’d worn a bling’d out chain with his name and a diamond-encrusted sandwich on it. He almost got time added to his sentence for smuggling packages of ranch dressing. Not ranch dressing loaded with drugs… just ranch dressing, because he missed it.
A successful doctor who came to prison for paying a drug-addict to murder his business partner. The hitman was paid with a personal check from the doctor. The man now gives investment advice to other prisoners.
The man who served over forty years in prison… and died from a heart-attack on the day he was released.
The young man who committed an armed robbery of a Mackinaw Island fudge shop, a humongous tourist destination in Michigan, during the peak season.
The Highwaymen motorcycle club gang enforcer who was caught in prison using a smuggled-in revolver with a single bullet, which he used not in an escape-attempt but to collect in-prison drug debts.
The trans-woman, nicknamed Hot-Pockets [who bore a striking resemblance to rapper Iggy Azalea] whose charms led to multiple stabbings between potential suitors.
The parolee who came back to prison with a new charge for sexually assaulting a sheep… and who successfully sued to not be added to the state’s sex-offender’s registry after his sentence was over, arguing that the required victimization-clause only applied to human beings.
The serial killer from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula who used to get beat up regularly by his cellmates because he refused to ever shower.
Chris Dankovich is serving 25-37 years in Michigan for killing his mother when he was 15 years old.
