This is Kevin Boyd’s bio, in his own words:
I was born to married parents in 1979 and grew up in the little country town of Oxford, Michigan.
I am an agnostic naturalist who feels that science and reason are the best cures for both the world we are living together, and any fix that needs to be made in the prison systems we reside in. I have spent the last 20 years of my life in prison for murder, and if you want to see that part of my life, it’s not hard to find on the Internet. I would prefer that it stays there. My entire life has been about that case: what happened and what didn’t happen. I want this experience with prisonwriters.com to be one of me being recognized as the man I am, not the 16-year-old boy who screwed up in the past. I want to help fix the system and bring people together using the vast amount of knowledge I have about the prison system and the people who live in it. It’s the lemon I have been given; I am just trying to make lemonade.
Lately I have been really inspired by Bill Nye, and Daniel Quinn’s books (Ishmael, The Story of B, My Ishmael) have molded my opinion on being a human being in general.
In prison I have continued to further my ability as a musician from being a simple drummer, to a singer/songwriter who plays several instruments. Michigan prisons allow us to do these things so it is my go-to for creativity. I work as a carpenter in the prison build program and I make things for charity like birdhouses, jewelry boxes, dog houses etc.
My goal is to someday be done with prison. I hope it happens but I’m not sure it will. If I ever do get out, I would like to experience things, like different places, people and foods. I’d like to work my hide off to catch up, and never take life for granted again.
